The Adoption Process

The first step is to call us or complete our enquiry form.  We will send you further information and you will be invited to attend one of our information sessions and an Expression of Interest (EOI) form will be sent to you. If you wish to continue your interest in adoption, you will need to complete and return the EOI form and a member of the team will contact you to discuss your enquiry and together decide on the next steps.

If we agree to proceed, our recruitment team will take you through Stage 1 in the process. At the end of Stage 1 a social worker will be allocated to you to continue with your approval. The process has been broken down into stages. The following diagram explains what will happen at each stage, from when you apply through to the process of approval.

Stage 1 (two months)

This stage is about enabling you to consider if adoption is right for you.

Stage 2 (four months)

Stage 2 of your adoption journey begins once you’ve received a positive pre-assessment decision. At this stage, we will be getting to know you better and thinking about which children could be a good match for your family.

Once you are approved, we will be sharing details of the children we think will suit you, and help you become a family. Your social worker will suggest suitable children from around the consortium and other local authority boroughs to find the right match.
